Debtor FAQ's
I am embarrassed that I have to file for bankruptcy. Is there
any way to keep this private?
Unfortunately, no. Bankruptcy case files are public records.
However, most people are not interested in accessing bankruptcy
information, so it is likely that the only way friends and family
members find out about it is if you tell them. Furthermore, current
employers and governmental agencies cannot legally discriminate
against a debtor because of a bankruptcy filing. Employers may be
notified if the debtor’s Chapter 13 payments are made by payroll
deduction.
